J 42129 Wheel Hub Remover

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the rear brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.

  4. Object Number: 787851  Size: SH
  5. Remove and discard the wheel drive shaft nut .

  6. Object Number: 767222  Size: SH
  7. Disconnect the ABS sensor electrical connector.
  8. Disconnect the ABS sensor electrical connector from the backing plate.

  9. Object Number: 767225  Size: SH
  10. Remove the parking brake cable bracket mounting bolts from the knuckle.
  11. Remove the parking brake cable bracket from the knuckle.

  12. Object Number: 818366  Size: SH
  13. Install J 42129 to the wheel bearing/hub.
  14. Using J 42129 disengage the wheel drive shaft from the wheel bearing/hub.

  15. Object Number: 783031  Size: SH
  16. Remove the wheel bearing/hub mounting bolts.
  17. Important:  The wheel hub remover may be needed in order to fully disengage the wheel bearing/hub from the drive axle.

  18. Remove the wheel bearing/hub and backing plate from the knuckle.
  19. Remove J 42129 from the wheel bearing/hub.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 783031  Size: SH
  1. Install the wheel bearing/hub and backing plate to the knuckle.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the wheel bearing/hub mounting bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 125 N·m (92 lb ft).

  5. Install the parking brake cable bracket to the knuckle.
  6. Install the parking brake cable bracket mounting bolts to the knuckle.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 60 N·m (44 lb ft).

  8. Connect the ABS sensor electrical connector to the backing plate.
  9. Connect the ABS sensor electrical connector.

  10. Object Number: 787851  Size: SH
  11. Install a new wheel drive shaft nut.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 160 N·m (118 lb ft).

  13. Install the brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  14. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  15. Lower the vehicle.
