  1. Inspect the center support components for the following:
  2. • Plugged fluid passages
    • Worn or damaged splines
    • Worn or damaged pistons
    • Worn or damaged clutch plates
  3. Install J 45137 - 2nd clutch inner seal protector, and J 45145 into the housing.

  4. Object Number: 801852  Size: SH
  5. Install the 2nd clutch piston (520).
  6. Install the 2nd clutch piston spring (521) into the center support (518).
  7. Use J 23327 to compress the 2nd clutch piston spring (521).
  8. Install the 2nd clutch spring retainer ring (522) into the center support (518).
  9. Remove J 23327 from the center support (518).

  11. Install the 2nd clutch apply plate (523) into the center support (518).
  12. Install the 2nd clutch plates. Start by installing the 2nd clutch plate (524) with external splines. Alternate with the 2nd clutch plate (525) with internal splines. Refer to Clutch Plate Selection Specifications .
  13. Install the 2nd clutch backing plate (526) into the center support (518).
  14. Install the 2nd clutch backing plate retainer ring (527) into the center support (518).

  15. Object Number: 816716  Size: SH
  16. Measure the distance between the 2nd clutch backing plate and the bottom of the gage bar. Measure three times in different locations on the backing plate. Record this as H1.
  17. Apply air pressure - 65 PSI, to the specified port. Measure the distance between the 2nd clutch backing plate and the bottom of the gage bar. Measure three times in different locations on the backing plate. Record this as H2.
  18. Subtract H2 from H1 this is the clutch pack travel. If the clutch travel is between 1.92 mm (0.076 in) and 1.32 mm (0.052 in) use the current 2nd clutch backing plate retainer ring (527). If the clutch travel is more than 1.92 mm (0.076 in) use the next size larger 2nd clutch backing plate retainer ring (527). If the clutch travel is less than 1.32 mm (0.052 in) use the next size smaller 2nd clutch backing plate retainer ring (527). Refer to Clutch Piston Travel Specifications .

  20. Install J 46239-1  (1) and J 46239-2  (2).
  21. Using J 46239-3  (3) install the 2nd coast clutch piston.
  22. Remove J 46239-1  (1),J 46239-2  (2) and J 46239-3  (3).

  24. Install the 2nd coast clutch spring (529) into the center support (518).
  25. Using J 23327 compress the 2nd coast clutch spring (529).
  26. Install the 2nd coast clutch spring retainer (530) into the center support (518).
  27. Remove J 23327 .

  29. Install the 2nd coast clutch spacer (531) into the center support (518).
  30. Install the 2nd coast clutch plates. Starting with the 2nd coast clutch plate (532) with external splines. Alternate with the 2nd coast clutch plate (533) with internal splines. Refer to Clutch Plate Selection Specifications .
  31. Install the 2nd coast clutch backing plate (534).
  32. Install the 2nd coast clutch backing plate retainer ring (535).

  34. Measure the distance between the 2nd coast clutch backing plate and the bottom of the gage bar. Measure three times in different locations on the backing plate. Record this as H1.
  35. Apply air pressure - 65 PSI, to the specified port. Measure the distance between the 2nd coast clutch backing plate and the bottom of the gage bar. Measure three times in different locations on the backing plate. Record this as H2.
  36. Subtract H2 from H1 this is the clutch pack travel. If the clutch travel is between 1.6 mm (0.063 in) and 0.80 mm (0.031 in) use the current 2nd coast clutch backing plate retainer ring (535). If the clutch travel is more than 1.6 mm (0.063 in) use the next size larger 2nd coast clutch backing plate retainer ring (535). If the clutch travel is less than 0.080 mm (0.031 in) use the next size smaller 2nd coast clutch backing plate retainer ring (535). Refer to Clutch Piston Travel Specifications .

  37. Object Number: 801857  Size: SH
  38. Use J 45140 - inner seal protector, and J 45136 - seal protector, to install the low and reverse clutch piston (517) into the center support (518).

  39. Object Number: 801846  Size: SH
  40. Use J 23327 - spring compressor, compress the low and reverse clutch piston spring (516).
  41. Install the low and reverse clutch spring retainer ring (515) into the center support (518).

  42. Object Number: 801845  Size: SH
  43. Install the low and reverse apply plate (514) into the center support (518).
  44. Install the low and reverse clutch plates. Start with the low and reverse clutch plate (513) with external splines. Alternate with the low and reverse clutch plate (512) with internal splines. Refer to Clutch Plate Selection Specifications .
  45. Install the low and reverse clutch backing plate (511) and the retainer ring (510) into the center support (518).

  46. Object Number: 816720  Size: SH
  47. Measure the distance between the low and reverse clutch backing plate and the bottom of the gage bar. Measure three times in different locations on the backing plate. Record this as H1.
  48. Apply air pressure - 65 PSI, to the specified port. Measure the distance between the low and reverse clutch backing plate and the bottom of the gage bar. Measure three times in different locations on the backing plate. Record this as H2.
  49. Subtract H2 from H1 this is the clutch pack travel. If the clutch travel is between 2.17 mm (0.085 in) and 1.32 mm (0.052 in) use the current low and reverse clutch backing plate retainer ring (510). If the clutch travel is more than 2.17 mm (0.085 in) use the next size larger low and reverse clutch backing plate retainer ring (510). If the clutch travel is less than 1.32 mm (0.052 in) use the next size smaller low and reverse clutch backing plate retainer ring (510). Refer to Clutch Piston Travel Specifications .

  50. Object Number: 801816  Size: SH
  51. Using J 45127 install the center support (18) into the case (24).
