Important: The solenoid valve relay is turned off by the EBTCM when a DTC is set. The solenoid relay will be noted to be off when using the scan tool to monitor the data list when DTCs are set. This is normal and should not be considered a system problem.
The EBTCM performs self-diagnostics. The EBTCM can detect and can often isolate system malfunctions. The EBTCM performs the following when a malfunction is detected:
• | The EBTCM sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) that represents the malfunction. |
• | The EBTCM turns on the ABS and/or the TC indicator lamps. |
• | The EBTCM may disable the ABS and/or the TC functions as necessary for the duration of the ignition cycle. |
The EBTCM performs an automatic test (Self Test) when the vehicle reaches 6 km/h (4 mph) in either forward or reverse. This occurs once each ignition cycle. The Self Test cycles each valve solenoid and the pump motor (as well as the necessary relays) to check component operation. The EBTCM sets a DTC if any error is detected. The Self Test may be heard and may be felt while it is taking place. This is a normal mode of operation.
After the Self Test has been performed, the EBTCM also performs an automatic test on the valve solenoids every time the vehicle reaches 6 km/h (4 mph). This occurs every time the vehicle has been over 30 km/h (20 mph), and then back below 6 km/h (4 mph). This test cycles each valve solenoid to check component operation. The test is less noticeable than the Self Test, but may be heard and may be felt while it is taking place. This is a normal mode of operation.
