Removal Procedure

Caution: For safety reasons, the brake pressure modulator valve assembly must not be repaired, the complete unit must be replaced. With the exception of the EBCM, no screws on the brake pressure modulator valve assembly may be loosened. If screws are loosened, it will not be possible to get the brake circuits leak-tight and personal injury may result.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Object Number: 174755 Size: SH
  3. Remove the hood contact switch (1).
  4. Remove one power steering fluid reservoir screw (2).
  5. Lay the fluid reservoir (3) to one side.

  6. Object Number: 174756 Size: SH
  7. Remove the EBTCM. Refer to EBTCM Replacement .
  8. Remove two EBTCM bracket screws (1).
  9. Remove the EBTCM bracket (2) from the BPMV.
  10. Remove the upper radiator hose from the engine. Refer to Radiator Hose Replacement - Outlet in Engine Cooling.

  11. Object Number: 174759 Size: SH
  12. Remove the cover from the Relay Center (1).
  13. Remove the Engine Control Module (ECM) (2).
  14. Move the ECM harness to one side.

  15. Object Number: 174763 Size: SH
  16. Remove the five brake pipes (2) from the BPMV.
  17. Plug the five pipes to prevent loss of fluid and entrance of dirt.
  18. Important: Note the location of the brake pipes for aid during the installation procedure.

    Object Number: 174766 Size: SH
  19. Remove the BPMV pump motor ground cable (2).

  20. Object Number: 174812 Size: SH
  21. Remove the three BPMV to bracket nuts (2).
  22. Slide the front of the heat shield (3) off of the front insulator stud.

  23. Object Number: 174770 Size: SH
  24. Push the brake pipes to one side.
  25. Remove the BPMV (1) from the vehicle by pulling up in front, then forward and upward.
  26. Notice: Avoid spilling brake fluid on any of the vehicle's painted surfaces, wiring, cables or electrical connectors. Brake fluid will damage paint and electrical connections. If any fluid is spilled on the vehicle, immediately flush the area with water to minimize the potential for damage.

Important: Reposition the brake pipes only as necessary to remove the BPMV. Excessive bending of the brake pipes may damage them.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 174770 Size: SH
  1. Install the BPMV (1) into the bracket.

  2. Object Number: 174812 Size: SH
  3. Slid the front of the heat shield (3) onto the front insulator stud.
  4. Install the three BPMV to the bracket nuts (2).
  5. Tighten
Tighten the three nuts to 8 N·m (6 lb ft). Refer to

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
