The inside rearview mirror (automatic memory) is fastened to an inside rearview mirror support that is secured to the windshield.

The inside rearview mirror (automatic memory) offered on this vehicle is a breakaway type. The breakaway inside rearview mirror (automatic memory) is designed to detach from the windshield in the event of an inflatable restraint deployment. The mirror attaches to the support on the windshield, but breaks away in the event of a accident. Be sure to follow the appropriate procedure when servicing the inside rearview mirror (automatic memory).

The casing contains two servo motors (1) for the automatic positioning (memory) of the inside rearview mirrors:

    • One for vertical adjustment.
    • One for horizontal adjustment.

The information about the current position of the inside mirror is sent to the memory system control unit by two potentiometers. The two potentiometer are attached to the motor axis. The inside rearview mirror is adjusted by hand. The motors are fitted with a sliding clutch to ensure that the motors are not damaged by the manual adjustment. In addition, the inside rearview mirror is equipped with two light sensors (2). One light sensor is positioned on the front of the mirror. The other light sensor is positioned on the rear of the mirror. These two light sensors measure the amount of light striking the mirror. Then, the two light sensors pass this information on to the evaluation electronics. The evaluation electronics applies voltage to a gel which is trapped between two glass plates when an excessive amount of light is present. The gel darkens and thus protects the driver against glare from the inside rearview mirror. The inside rearview mirror can only be replaced as an assembly.

Refer to Automatic Day-Night Mirrors Circuit Description for further information on the inside rearview mirror (automatic memory).
