SEVERAL OF THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES USED ON THE CATERA REQUIRE PROGRAMMING VIA THE TECH 2 WHEN INSTALLING A NEW MODULE DURING SERVICE. THESE MODULES AND A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE REQUIREMENTS ARE LISTED BELOW:
AUTOMATIC LEVEL CONTROL SENSOR (ALC)
NEW SENSORS REQUIRE AN ADJUSTMENT OR "ZEROING" PROCEDURE UPON INSTALLATION. THE AUTOMATIC LEVEL CONTROL SYSTEM MAY NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY IF THE SENSOR IS NOT ADJUSTED PROPERLY. THE ADJUSTMENT IS ACCOMPLISHED USING THE TECH 2 BY SELECTING "F3: PROGRAMMING " ON THE LEVEL SENSOR MENU. FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED ON THE SCREEN.
CRUISE CONTROL MODULE
NEW MODULES REQUIRE A CALIBRATION FILE TO BE PROGRAMMED VIA THE TECH 2. A DTC 55 MAY SET IF THE MODULE IS NOT PROGRAMMED PROPERLY. TO PROGRAM THE MODULE, SELECT "F4: PROGRAMMING" ON THE CRUISE CONTROL MENU. FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED ON THE SCREEN.
ELECTRONIC BRAKE TRACTION CONTROL MODULE (EBTCM)
NEW MODULES REQUIRE THAT THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION TYPE BE PROGRAMMED VIA THE TECH 2. TRACTION CONTROL MAY BE DISABLED AND A DTC 65 MAY SET IF THE MODULE IS NOT PROPERLY PROGRAMMED. TO PROGRAM THE MODULE, SELECT "F4: ABS PROGRAMMING" ON THE ABS MENU. FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED ON THE SCREEN.
ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM)
NEW MODULES NEED TO LEARN THE FREQUENCY CODE FROM THE THEFT DETERRENT MODULE (IMMOBILIZER) VIA THE TECH 2. THE VEHICLE MAY NOT START IF THE MODULE DOES NOT LEARN PROPERLY. TO INITIATE THE LEARN ROUTINE, SELECT "F2: SPECIAL FUNCTIONS" ON THE POWERTRAIN MENU, THEN SELECT "F2: ECM/ IMMOBILIZER RELEARN". FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED ON THE SCREEN. A DTC P0602 MAY SET DURING THE LEARN PROCEDURE. IF SO, CYCLE THE KEY AND THEN CLEAR DTCS USING THE TECH 2.
INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER
A REPLACEMENT INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER REQUIRES THE ODOMETER MILEAGE TO BE PROGRAMMED. THIS IS NOT PROGRAMMABLE IN THE DEALERSHIP AND A NEW CLUSTER MUST BE ORDERED FROM A LOCAL A/C DELCO SERVICE CENTER.
THEFT DETERRENT MODULE (IMMOBILIZER)
NEW MODULES NEED TO BE PROGRAMMED WITH THE SECURITY CODE, ENGINE TYPE, KEY CYLINDER NUMBER (KEY CODE), AND VIN VIA THE TECH 2. THE VEHICLE MAY NOT START AND A DTC 13 MAY SET IF THE MODULE IS NOT PROGRAMMED PROPERLY. TO PROGRAM THE IMMOBILIZER MODULE, SELECT "F3: SPECIAL FUNCTIONS" ON THE IMMOBILIZER MENU, THEN SELECT "F4: PROGRAM IMMOBILIZER". ENTER THE INFORMATION INDICATED BY THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE SCREEN. THE SECURITY CODE AND KEY CYLINDER NUMBER (KEY CODE) CAN BE OBTAINED BY U.S. DEALERS FROM THE VEHICLE INVOICE OR BY CALLING GM TRACS 2000 (1-800-433-6961) OR CADILLAC ROADSIDE SERVICE (1-800-882-1112). G.M. OF CANADA DEALERS CAN OBTAIN SECURITY CODE AND KEY CYLINDER INFORMATION FROM THE VEHICLE INVOICE OR CADILLAC ROADSIDE SERVICE (1-800-882-1112). AFTER PROGRAMMING THE NEW IMMOBILIZER, YOU MUST PROGRAM EACH IGNITION KEY TO THE NEW IMMOBILIZER. FROM THE IMMOBILIZER MENU SELECT "F3: SPECIAL FUNCTIONS" AND THEN SELECT "F2: PROGRAM TRANSPONDER - KEY" AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE SCREEN. ALL IGNITION KEYS FOR THE CAR MUST BE PROGRAMMED AT THIS TIME AND IN THIS MANNER. THE CUSTOMER MUST PROVIDE ALL IGNITION KEYS FOR THE VEHICLE IN ORDER TO DO THIS.
THE LAST STEP AFTER INSTALLING A NEW IMMOBILIZER IS TO RELEARN THE ECM TO THE NEW IMMOBILIZER'S FREQUENCY CODE. FROM THE IMMOBILIZER MENU SELECT "F3: SPECIAL FUNCTION" AND THEN PRESS "F8: ECM/IMMOBILIZER RELEARN" AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE SCREEN.
FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE ABOVE PROCEDURE IN THE EXACT ORDER LISTED WILL RESULT IN A NO START.
SENSING AND DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM)
NEW MODULES NEED TO BE CONFIGURED TO "DRIVER + PASSENGER" SYSTEM VIA THE TECH 2. A DTC 52 WILL SET IF THE MODULE IS NOT PROGRAMMED PROPERLY. TO PROGRAM THE MODULE, SELECT "F3: PROGRAMMING" ON THE SUPPLEMENTAL INFLATABLE RESTRAINT MENU. FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED ON THE SCREEN.
