SOME 1997 CATERAS MAY EXHIBIT A CONDITION WHERE THE AIR BAG WARNING LAMP COMES ON WITH A DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) 55 STORED IN "HISTORY". LOW BATTERY VOLTAGE MAY BE THE CAUSE OF THIS DTC SETTING. THIS IS MOST LIKELY TO OCCUR DURING THE SHIPPING PROCESS, BUT COULD ALSO OCCUR DURING LONG PERIODS OF STORAGE, OR IF A WIRING FAULT OCCURS THAT DISCHARGES THE BATTERY.
IN THE EVENT OF THE OCCURRENCE OF A "HISTORY" DTC 55 SETTING, THE AIR BAG SENSING AND DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM) SHOULD NOT BE REPLACED. INSTEAD, THE HISTORY DTC 55 SHOULD BE CLEARED USING THE TECH 2 AND THE CAUSE OF THE LOW BATTERY VOLTAGE DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED.
FOR A "CURRENT" AIR BAG DTC 55 SETTING, FOLLOW THE APPROPRIATE DIAGNOSIS CHART IN THE SERVICE MANUAL.

GENERAL MOTORS BULLETINS ARE INTENDED FOR USE BY PROFESSIONAL TECHNICIANS, NOT A "DO-IT-YOURSELFER". THEY ARE WRITTEN TO INFORM THOSE TECHNICIANS OF CONDITIONS THAT MAY OCCUR ON SOME VEHICLES, OR TO PROVIDE INFORMATION THAT COULD ASSIST IN THE PROPER SERVICE OF A VEHICLE. PROPERLY TRAINED TECHNICIANS HAVE THE EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS AND KNOW-HOW TO DO A JOB PROPERLY AND SAFELY. IF A CONDITION IS DESCRIBED, DO NOT ASSUME THAT THE BULLETIN APPLIES TO YOUR VEHICLE, OR THAT YOUR VEHICLE WILL HAVE THAT CONDITION. SEE A GENERAL MOTORS DEALER SERVICING YOUR BRAND OF GENERAL MOTORS VEHICLE FOR INFORMATION ON WHETHER YOUR VEHICLE MAY BENEFIT FROM THE INFORMATION.
