Circuit Description

The EBTCM performs various self diagnostic checks that can detect an internal malfunction within the module. DTC 55 will be set if the EBTCM detects a malfunction.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The EBTCM finds an internal malfunction during self diagnosis.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • A malfunction DTC is stored.
    • The ABS and the TC indicator lamps will be on.
    • The ABS and the TCS are disabled.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The condition for the DTC is no longer present.
    • The scan tool Clear DTCs function is used.
    • 100 drive cycles have passed with no DTCs detected.

Diagnostic Aids

If the malfunction is intermittent, clear the DTC after completing the diagnosis. Test drive the vehicle for three drive cycles in order to verify that the DTC does not reset. Use the following procedure in order to complete one drive cycle:

  1. Start the vehicle.
  2. Drive the vehicle over 6 km/h (4 mph).
  3. Stop the vehicle.
  4. Turn the ignition to the OFF position.

  1. If DTC 55 is set as a current DTC, the EBTCM must be replaced.

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position with the engine off.
  3. Use the scan tool to read the DTCs.

Did DTC 55 set as a current DTC?
