RADIO DIAL INDICATOR BINDING DISTORTION IN REAR SPEAKERS

Some 1982 Cimarron radios may exhibit a condition where the radio manual tuning mechanism may bind or stick, preventing movement of the dial indicator. This binding can be caused by one or a combination of the following:

1. Radio installed too tightly in the instrument panel.

2. Loose dial illumination bulb mounting clip that can permit the bulb to interfere with the dial indicator mechanism.

3. An internal condition.

To correct a radio exhibiting this condition, perform the following procedure:

1. Remove radio from instrument panel.

2. Position dial lightbulb on the top cover by sliding the lightbulb's mounting clip into its locating slot, shown in the illustration below.

3. Secure the lightbulb in this position by applying a two inch piece of electrical tape across its mounting clip and the outside of top cover, shown in the illustration.

4. While the radio is still out of the instrument panel, check manual tuning mechanism for proper functioning. If the binding condition still exists, return the radio to the nearest authorized Delco Radio Repair Center for further service. If the binding condition is eliminated, inspect mounting bracketry for proper alignment and reinstall the radio.

For warranty purposes, use Operation No. R0750, at 0.5 hour.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
