All Cimarrons are produced at GMAD South Gate, California, and feature a hand-buffed enamel paint finish. This paint utilizes a water-base substance that evaporates during the drying process. General Motors is required to use paint of this type at the South Gate assembly plant to meet California Air Resource Board pollution requirements.
One unique characteristic of hand-buffed enamel is the irregular surface finish that is evident once the paint dries. This surface finish, usually referred to as orange peel, results during the paint drying process as the paint "reflows or levels off". Any panel on the vehicle can exhibit this condition in one form or another. Minor variances between panels should be considered normal while major differences can be reduced using a polishing compound. If additional guidance is required in analyzing this condition, contact your District Service Manager.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
