CIMARRON CLOCK REPLACEMENT
A clock module, P/N 16022478, is now available from GMWDD which will permit dealership replacement of the radio clock in a Cimarron equipped with a manually tuned radio (MTR) rather than sending the radio to an authorized repair center. The dealership may still have the clock replaced by an AC-Delco Authorized Radio Repair Center if so desired. This bulletin outlines a diagnostic and service procedure for Cimarron MTR clock repair.
1. Before removing the radio, verify the reported clock condition by turning the ignition switch on with headlamps and park lamps off. Then observe the clock display while turning the headlamps on and rotating the I.P. lamp dimmer switch through its full range.
A. If the clock works with headlamps off but does not work with headlamps on, it is probably the I.P.lamp dimmer switch or circuit 8 (gray wire) from the dimmer switch to the radio which is causing the condition.
B. If the display appeared to go dead when the headlights were turned on, discriminately verify that the display is indeed dead and not just dimmed. The intensity of some clocks will drop by as much as 95% when the vehicle headlights are turned on. Therefore, daylight viewing of the clock when the headlights are on may be difficult but normal.
2. Determine if the radio works.
3. Remove the radio per the 1982 Cimarron Service Information Manual.
4. If the radio and clock are completely inoperative, check for battery power (circuit 40, orange wire in 2 cavity connector) and ground (circuit 150, black wire) to the radio; repair wiring as required.
5. If steps 1 through 4 have been completed and clock replacement is required, proceed as follows:
a. Remove radio knobs.
b. Remove four screws ("A"), illustrated in Figure 1.
c. Remove radio face plate.
d. Remove black tape around clock and save.
e. Remove two screws ("B"), illustrated in Figure 1.
f. Unplug clock module.
g. Install and connect new clock module, install two screws ("B").
h. Install tape around clock - this tape is necessary to reduce light leaks.
i. Install radio face plate and four screws ("A").
j. Install knobs.
k. Reinstall radio per Cimarron Service Information Manual procedure.
l. Check operation of clock and radio, and set correct time on clock.
For warranty purposes use Operation Number R0750 at 0.3 hour.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
