WHINE NOISE IN PARK OR NEUTRAL-UPDATE

This bulletin provides additional information to the original issue of Serviceman Bulletin 83-73. Changes to the original bulletin are shaded for reference; discard Serviceman Bulletin 83-73.

1982 and 1983 Cimarrons equipped with THM 125C transaxles which may experience a noise condition that can be described as a high pitched whine. This noise condition, if only noticeable in park and neutral, and not in Drive or Reverse (while stopped and the brakes applied) could be caused by one or more of the following parts (refer to Figure 1):

When servicing any 1982 or 1983 THM 125-C for this noise condition, carefully inspect these four parts for wear, damage or a rough or worn bearing surface area. Replace any suspect parts with service part(s) listed above.

Refer to the Service Information Manual for removal and installation procedures of the drive and driven sprocket support cage bearings as well as the driven sprocket and its thrust bearing.

For warranty purposes, use labor Operation Number T6077 at 4.5 hours.
