ROUGH IDLE OR STALL AT IDLE (EFE GASKET MAYBE CAUSE)

MODELS AFFECTED: 1982 CIMMARRONS

Some 1982 Cimarrons may experience an engine roughness at idle or slightly off-idle. These vehicles may also experience a stall at idle. These conditions may be caused by a vacuum leak at the EFE heater generating a lean air/fuel mixture condition.

To repair this condition, normal service manual diagnostic procedures should be followed to isolate the cause of a lean air/fuel mixture. If the Early Fuel Evaporation (EFE) heater, located between the carburetor and the intake manifold (Figure 1), is identified as the source of the vacuum leak, then the heater should be replaced following normal service procedures described in Section 6Cl of the Cimarron Service Information Manual.

The EFE heater, P/N 14018761, is available from GMSPO on their "target program" and is covered by GM's 5 year/50,000 mile emission warranty.

For warranty purposes, use Labor Operation J5125 at .7 hour.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
