This bulletin supersedes Bulletin T-88-95, Group 7 which should be destroyed.
Some 1982-1988 Cimarrons may experience a condition of fluid leaks on the THM 125C side cover or bottom pan when either have been removed and replaced. This may be caused by fluid leaking through improperly sealed oil pan bolts in the side cover or bottom pan.
To repair this condition, a non-permanent thread lock/sealer, such as LOCTITE 242, P/N 12345382 or equivalent, must be used on three of the side cover and bottom pan bolts, refer to Figure 1, to reduce the potential for leakage at these areas. Make a note in the Service information Manual to apply a non-permanent thread lock/sealer to these three side cover and bottom pan bolts every time they are removed and reinstalled.
Clean the bolts with a suitable solvent to ensure they are free of dirt and transmission fluid. Apply sealant to each bolt according to the sealant manufacturer's instructions, and allow it to fully cure before operating the vehicle.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
