FINAL DRIVE CASE BUSHING REPLACEMENT 125/125C THMS

FINAL DRIVE CASE BUSHING REPLACEMENT - THM 125-C

When servicing any 1982 or 1983 Cimarron equipped with a THM 125-C transaxle that involves repair to the final drive assembly, make certain to closely inspect the case bushing (Item #17, Figure 125-C - 268 of the 1983 SIM).

Whenever the case bushing shows signs of wear or scoring, it must be replaced to prevent shaft or seal damage to the right axle shaft. Use the following procedure to replace the case bushing:

1. Remove the right axle seal assembly from the transaxle case.

2. Using tool J-28537-6 with driver handle J-8092, remove the bushing.

3. Inspect the case and new bushing (P/N 8631119) for burrs and loose aluminum. Remove all loose material.

4. Using tool J-28537-2 with driver handle J-8092, drive or press the new bushing into place until the tool bottoms.

5. Using tool J-26938 or J-29130 with driver handle J-8092, install a new right hand axle seal assembly (P/N 8643962).

6. Reassemble the transaxle following procedures listed in the Service Information Manual.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
