CIMARRON FRT BUMPER FILLER CORRECT WAVY CONDITION

CIMARRON FRONT BUMPER CENTER FILLER WAVY CONDITION

All 1982 Cimarrons, and 1983 Cimarrons prior to VIN 408528, may experience a wavy front bumper center filler condition. Later 1983 Cimarrons were manufactured with the addition of shims and a change of center filler mountings. These changes create a pre-load effect on the center filler that has been found to be reliable in correcting the wavy condition.

1982 and 1983 Cimarrons found to have this condition may be corrected using the current center filler mounting design. The service parts required for this correction are as follows:

P/N 1627343 (2 Required) Shim - Inner P/N 1627344 (2 Required) Shim - Outer P/N 11504318 (8 Required) Screw Assembly P/N 9433159 (8 Required) "U" Nut

To correct the wavy condition, proceed as follows:

1. Remove the radiator grille assembly by removing the ten screws which attach it to the front end panel.

NOTICE: When removing the headlamp retaining rings in the following step, do not adjust or remove the two headlamp aim adjustment screws since the removal of the headlamp housing is not required. If these screws are adjusted or removed, it will be necessary to readjust the aim of the headlamps at the conclusion of this procedure.

2. Removing each headlamp one at a time, remove the headlamp retaining ring and disconnect the electrical connector. Note the location of each headlamp for later reassembly.

3. Remove and discard the inner and outer retainers by removing the ten retainer screws for the 1982 model or the ten retainer clips for the 1983 model (Figure 1).

4. Remove the center filler.

5. Mount the inner and outer shims to the front end panel by installing the eight "U" nuts as "clamps" to hold the shims in place during assembly (Figure 2).

6. Install and secure the center filler using the eight screw assemblies and torque each to 4.0 N.m (35 in. lbs.).

7. Install each headlamp one at a time in its original location, reconnect the electrical connectors and secure the headlamps by reinstalling the headlamp retainer rings.

8. Verify correct high beam and lo beam headlamp operation.

9. Reinstall the radiator grille to the front end panel.

For warranty purposes, use labor Operation No. B0506, Filler - Front Bumper Center, at D. 6 hour.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
