Some 1983 Cimarrons may experience a condition of water leaking into the passenger compartment. This leakage may be caused by a restricted air conditioning evaporator drainage tray check valve and/or the windshield washer container interfering with the HVAC plenum drain valve.
If the evaporator drainage tray check valve, Figure 1, becomes obstructed, restricted or "sticks" closed, the drain off water from the evaporator core is allowed to fill the evaporator case and eventually overflow into the passenger compartment. Closely examine the drainage tray check valve for this condition.
Interference between the windshield washer and HVAC plenum drain valve will cause water to collect in the plenum and back up into the air intake. To correct this condition, remove the windshield washer container and elongate the outboard bottle mounting hole as shown in Figure 2.
Additional checks should also be made to insure that the evaporator case has the proper sealing along the dash cowl area.
For warranty purposes, use Operation No. T6087 at .3 hour.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
