2ND GEAR STARTS 125/125C TRANS MISSION CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY

MODELS AFFECTED: 1984 CIMARRON

Early production 1984 Cimarrons equipped with THM 125C transaxles may exhibit poor performance in the DRIVE range from a standing start. The poor performance may be caused by the transaxle starting in second rather than first gear as a result of the transmission control valve assembly.

To correct the second gear standing start condition, a new design control valve assembly was installed beginning at transaxle serial numbers 84 CA 1674 and 84 CB 91946. When servicing any 1984 THM 125C transaxle built before these serial numbers for a second gear start out condition, replace the control valve assembly with P/N 8652173. For warranty purposes, use labor Operation No. K6570 at 1.1 hours.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
