All Cadilacs (except Cimarrons) equipped with aluminum wheels use a solid locking wheel nut which is heavier than the standard, non-locking wheel nut. In some instances, the heavier locking wheel nut may create a slight wheel imbalance condition that cannot be corrected with off-car balance techniques.
If this condition is encountered, install the locking wheel nut in the position nearest the valve stem and add a 1/2 ounce balance weight 180 degrees opposite the locking nut. For improved appearance, the balance weight should be installed on the inboard side of the wheel. This procedure will improve the on-car balance by compensating for the heavier locking wheel nut.
When rotating tires, always reinstall the locking nut nearest the tire valve stem so that it remains opposite the 1/2 ounce balance weight.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
