SECOND GEAR START OUT - 1983 THM 125-C
Early production 1983 Cimarrons equipped with THM 125-C transaxles may exhibit an intermittent condition of apparent poor performance in the DRIVE range from a standing start. This apparent poor performance is caused by the transaxle starting out in second rather than first gear as a result of the primary spring of the transaxle's governor assembly creating sufficient hydraulic pressure to move the 1-2 shift valve to its upshift position.
To correct the second gear start out condition on any 1983 THM 125-C transaxle built prior to serial number 83 CB 29352, the following procedure should be performed:
1. Remove the governor assembly as described on page 7A-16 of the Cimarron section of the 1983 Service Information Manual.
2. Remove the primary spring from the governor assembly (refer to Figure 1).
3. Reinstall the governor assembly with a new cover seal (P/N 8632064).
For warranty purposes, use labor Operation Number K6430 at .4 hour.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
