THM 125C SRTA PROGRAM GUIDELINE INFORMATION

Effective October 1, 1987, the THM 125C Service Replacement Transaxle program began. At the start of the program, SRTA models can be ordered for all 1982 through 1986 125C model applications from your local General Motors Service Parts Operation (GMSPO) parts distribution center. Early in 1988, the THM 125C SRTA program will be expanded to also include the 1987 and 1988 model year applications.

The THM 125C SRTA program is customer satisfaction driven and parallels the existing replacement programs. Unit replacement through SRTA represents an additional method of service which General Motors dealers and divisions can offer the customer in instances where major overhaul is necessary. Additional program details are provided as follows:

GENERAL GUIDELINES - REPLACEMENT OR OVERHAUL

- SRTA usage should be considered for repairs in which the projected cost exceeds the cost of the SRTA replacement.

- TRANSAXLE FLUID COOLER FLUSHING

IMPORTANT: Transaxle fluid cooler flushing MUST be performed whenever a transaxle is removed for service. A cooler flushing tool, Kent-Moore number J-35944, has been sent to your dealership to properly flush the cooler. Time allowance for using the flushing tool is included in Operation K7000 (Trans. R&R) for the 1987 and 1988 model year Labor Time Guides and 0.6 hour can be added to the R&R allowances for the 1982 through 1985 model years.

- INSTALL CASE VENT ASSEMBLY

IMPORTANT: Before installing the 125C SRTA unit into the vehicle, remove and discard the PLASTIC case vent. (It is only used for shipping purposes.)

Included with each SRTA unit is package number 8652982 that contains two metal case vents. Select and install the same design metal vent as the one on the transaxle being replaced.

- WARRANTY INFORMATION

Each SRTA unit is protected by a 12 month/12,000 mile Limited Warranty or the duration of the Limited New Car Warranty, whichever is greater (as detailed in Section I of the Cadillac Service Policies and Procedures Manual).

For warranty purposes, use Labor Operation K7000 (for the time allowed in the Labor Time Guide corresponding to the model year of the vehicle in question).

NOTE: The time allowance for the cooler flushing procedure has been included in the 1987 and later Labor Time Guides. When using a 1986 and prior Labor Time Guide, add .6 hour for cooler flushing to the SRTA replacement time allowance.

Zone authorization is not required by Cadillac for Labor Operations as listed in the Labor Time Guide unless the cost of repairs performed exceeds the cost of the SRTA replacement unit.

For warranty parts scrapping records, a copy of the "SRTA Failure Analysis Worksheet" is to be attached to the scrapping copy of the repair order. SRTA units are excluded from the thirty day retention period required in the Cadillac Service Policies and Procedures Manual. Return SRTA units weekly.

When ordering SRTA units, obtain the Transaxle Model Code from the Transaxle ID Tag and refer to the following parts information.

- SRTA Processing Procedures

Each SRTA unit will be shipped in a container which must be used for core return of the original THM 125C assembly to your GMSPO Parts Distribution Center. A SRTA information Packet is included with each SRTA unit. The contents of this envelope are to be removed and used as described with each illustration on the following pages.

- SRTA Processing Procedures - Information Packet

The contents of this envelope include Limited Warranty information, Dealer Product Feedback Form, Core Exchange Return Procedure, and a pre-addressed return mailing envelope. A dealer representative is to explain all warranty information contained in this envelope to the customer.

- SRTA Processing Procedures - Core Exchange Return

The core return procedure provides detailed instructions for the GM dealer on handling of the SRTA and original THM 125C units. This sheet can be discarded after use.

- SRTA Processing Procedures - Failure Analysis Information

This Product Feedback Form is to be completed by the service manager and/or technician. Fill out the form as completely as possible to provide information which can be used for analysis. This valuable input can result in future product refinement through corrective action. Insert the white copy of the completed form and a copy of the repair order into the SRTA Information Packet envelope, reseal the envelope and wire tag it to the bellhousing of the unit being returned for core exchange. Return the yellow copy of the completed Product Feedback Form, using the post paid envelope, to Hydra-matic Division.

- THM 125C Transaxle Identification Information

The 125C transaxle identification information and the SRTA model replacement chart (refer to page 8) will assist in selecting the correct SRTA unit to order from your local Parts Distribution Center.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
