STEERING COLUMN NOISE VEHICLES WITH TILT STEERING

MODELS AFFECTED: ALL 1984 MODELS EQUIPPED WITH TILT STEERING COLUMN

Some 1984 Cadillacs equipped with tilt or tilt and telescope steering columns may experience a rattling noise in the area of the ignition lock. This condition may result from inadequate lubrication of the lock bolt. To correct this condition, remove the lock housing cover using the procedure outlined in Section 3B3 of the 1984 Service Information Manual. Liberally coat the exposed area of the lock bolt with lithium base chassis grease (refer to Figure 1) and reassemble.

For warranty purposes, use labor Operation No. E7220 at 0.9 hour.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
