Boot clamps are included with the short gear.
Use of the short gear is recommended when the expense of individual parts and required labor necessary to service a rack and pinion assembly would exceed the expense of installing the short gear assembly. The short gear incorporates all product improvements made since 1982.
Refer to the appropriate Service Information Manual, Section 3B1, for parts transfer and removal and installation procedures.
Failure to disconnect the intermediate shaft from the rack and pinion stub shaft prior to lowering cradle can result in damage to the steering gear and/or intermediate shaft. Operation of the vehicle with this damage can cause loss of steering control which could result in personal injury.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
