INOP.TAPE EJECT BUTTON SHORTED TAPE EJECT SWITCH

MODELS AFFECTED: 1984 ELDORADOS AND SEVILLES 1985 DEVILLES AND FLEETWOODS

Customer comments that either cassette tapes cannot be ejected unless the radio or ignition is turned off or that the tape deck will not accept a tape cassette may be caused by an open or shorted tape eject button. This condition may affect some 1984 Eldorados and Sevilles equipped with a Bose radio or 1985 (FWD) Devilles and Fleetwoods equipped with any cassette tape deck.

Verify the customer comment with a known good tape because the normal operation of the tape deck will eject or not accept a tape cassette if the tape cassette is damaged (i.e., binds or jams). The unit should not be removed if the customer has the condition only with a specific tape cassette. Only after the condition is verified should the unit should be removed and sent to an authorized AC-Delco Service Center for repair. The specific condition should be described on the AC-Delco Repair Claim Form as "tape eject button inoperative."

For warranty purposes, use labor Operation No. T6120 at .4 hour for R&R receiver and cassette tape operation test.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
