Final approval of the Product Service Publication (PSP) program came too late for General Motors to provide a description of the program in the original 1984 Owner's Manuals. However, the program will be described in all future printings of these manuals. We are currently implementing two plans for advising owners of 1984 Cadillacs that will not have this information in their Owner's Manual.
First, we are including this bulletin, which provides a written description of the program in the PSP index. We urge you to provide interested customers a copy of the ordering form from your PSP binder, and to provide them copies of any PSP they may be interested in. It is our recommendation that you provide these to your customers free. However, you may charge a reasonable fee top cover copying expenses. Second, in the near future, we will send you a supply of printed Owner's Manuals supplements describing the PSP program in detail. Treat these as if they were part of the Owner's Manuals for your customers' cars. Deliver them to new car buyers at the time of vehicle delivery. Also, set some aside in your Service Department; and when 1984 model year owners come to you for servicing make sure they get a copy.
The Owner's Manual Supplement will incldue the following desription of the PSP program.
UPDATED SERVICE INFORMATION YOU CAN OBTAIN *
Cadillac regularly sends its dealers useful service bulletins about Cadillac products. Cadillac monitors product performance in the field. We then prepare bulletins for servicing our products better. Now, you can get these bulletins too.
Bulletins cover various subjects. Some pertain to the proper use and care of your car. Some describe costly repairs. Others describe inexpensive repairs which, if done timely, with the latest parts, may avoid future costly repairs. Some bulletins tell a mechanic how to repair a new or unexpected condition. Others describe a quicker way to fix your car. They can help a mechanic service your car better.
Most bulletins apply to conditions affecting a small number of cars. Your Cadillac dealer or a qualified mechanic may have to determine if a specific bulletin applies to your car.
You can subscribe to all Cadillac bulletins. This way you'll get them as they come out. You can wait a while and get an index to the bulletins. The index summarizes some of the more important bulletins. You can also get individual bulletins. However, you'll need the index to identify them.
You can subscribe to all Cadillac bulletins. This will include bulletins for all of the cars sold by Cadillac and will not be limited to the bulletins applicable to any particular model. When you buy a subscription, you will receive the bulletins in periodic mailings, shortly after they come out. A subscription costs $100.00 and entitles you to all the bulletins published by Cadillac during the model year. You can purchase a subscription by sending a check or money order to Helm, Inc., PO Box 07130, Detroit Michigan 48207, along with the order form. You may get additional subscription ordering forms by calling the toll-free number listed below, or you can find them at participating dealerships.
If you don't want to buy all the bulletins issued by Cadillac for all car models in the model year, you can buy individual bulletins, such as those bulletins which may pertain to a particular model. To do this, you will first need to see our index of bulletins. It provides a variety of information. Here's what you'll find in the index and how you can get one:
What you'll find in the index
- a list of all bulletins published by Cadillac in a model year (1982 or later). Bulletins covering all models of Cadillac cars are listed in the same index.
- ordering information so you can buy the specific bulletin you may want.
- price information for the bulletins you may want to buy.
- easy-to-understand summaries of some of the more important bulletins. These summaries highlight some of the bulletins which describe costly repairs or which are designed to prevent costly repairs, or which contain owner use and care information.
How you can get an index
Indexes are published quarterly each model year, and each quarterly issue is updated cumulatively for that model year. Most of the bulletins which could potentially apply to the most recent Cadillac models will be listed in the last quarterly publication for that model year. This means you may want to wait until the end of the model year before ordering an index, if you are interested in buying bulletins pertaining to a current model year.
Some bulletins pertaining to a particular model year car may be published in later years, and these would be listed in the later year's index. When you order an index for a model year that is not over yet, we'll send you the most recently published quarterly issue. You can specify an index for an earlier model year, but not before 1982.
Cut out the ordering form, fill it out and mail it in, and we will then see to it that an index is mailed to you. There is no charge for indexes for the 1982-1985 model years.
Tool-Free Telephone Number
If you want an additional ordering form for an index or a subscription, just call toll-free and we'll be happy to send you one. Automated recording equipment will take your name and mailing address. The number to call is 1-800-551-4123.
Copies at Participating Dealers
Copies of Indexes and individual bulletins are at your participating Cadillac dealer. You can ask to see them.
A very important reminder: These bulletins are meant for mechanics. They are not meant for the "do-it-yourselfer". Mechanics have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job quickly and safely.
Prices apply to owners in the United States only. Canadian residents should obtain a Canadian Service Manual Order Form from any GM dealership.
*Information on how to obtain bulletins, subscriptions, indexes and summaries as described are applicable only in the fity states (and the District of Columbia).
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
