A May revision to the 1984 Labor Time Guide Microfiche has been published. All time changes, text changes, and new operations are "flagged" with change indicators as described in the Labor Time Guide Foreward (Frame A-3). Dealers should receive this revision by May 31.
Also included in this mailing is a 1984 Serviceman Bulletin and Dealer Service Information Bulletin Microfiche updates. This May, 1984, update includes 1984 Bulletins through the end of April, and should replace the previous 3/84 release mailed in March.
We have received several inquiries concerning the Labor Time Guide for 1985 FWD C-car. As published in DSIB 84-I-9, dealers should be reminded that, even though this is a 1985 vehicle, it is included in the 1984 Labor Time Guide ("C" column).
During the months of February and March, we received 60 Request for Review Letters, covering 47 different labor operations. Of these 47 operations, 15 resulted in a time allowance "Increase", 6 provided "New Operations", 14 received some other form of "Favorable Action" and 12 remained the same. The most active zone was Los Angeles, which submitted 23% of these requests.
The "Honorary Mention Award" goes to Crissman Cadillac in Birmingham, Michigan. Their request resulted in an additional 2.9 hours being added to operation J1660 "plug, camshaft rear bearing replace (L-4 engine)". This time allowance increase includes R&R of the flexplate, which must be removed for access. This time change applies to all 1982-1984 Cimarrons.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
