REVISED: ELEC. CLUSTER EXCHANGE PROCEDURE

MODELS AFFECTED: 1985 THROUGH 1987 CIMARRONS AND 1987 ALLANTE

This Bulletin replaces Bulletin 87-1-1 which should be destroyed.

The optional Cimarron electronic cluster and standard Allante electronic cluster are covered under the new car limited warranty Electronic Component Coverage as follows:

1985-86 Cimarrons - 48 months or 50,000 miles whichever comes first. 1987 Cimarrons - 60 months or 50,000 miles whichever comes first. 1987 Allante - 72 months or 75,000 miles whichever comes first.

When diagnosis of the above electronic cluster indicates replacement, the following procedure should be used:

1. Call the American Yazaki Corporation service center using toll free number 800-421-8108 (Michigan dealers 800-421-0174). Calls can be placed 24 hours a day. Order a rebuilt cluster using the appropriate part number listed below.

Model Year P/N ----- ---- --- Cimarron 1985-1986 25081527 Cimarron 1987 25083444 Allante 1987 1639259

When calling, an American Yazaki technician will request the following information:

A. VIN Number,

B. Owner complaint/observed condition,

C. The diagnostic checks used to determine that the cluster required replace- ment. The Yazaki technician will attempt to confirm that the problem is cluster related and not car system related.

D. If the problem condition involves the odometer, a mileage figure will be required. American Yazaki will ship a replacement cluster with that mileage pre-set.

2. For conditions that do not affect the odometer, the mileage memory chip must be transferred from the inoperative cluster to the replacement cluster. This is the only transfer of parts required. If the problem condition involves the odometer the mileage chip should remain in place and be returned with the cluster.

3. Complete the computer form enclosed with the replacement cluster and return it with the inoperative cluster. The inoperative cluster must be shipped back to Yazaki at the following address using the reusable container in which the replacement cluster was received.

American Yazaki Corporation 6700 Haggerty Road Canton, Michigan 48187 Attn: Instrument Service Department

Care should be exercised when packaging the electronic cluster to prevent damage in transit.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
