ENGINE SURGE IN 3RD GEAR NEW PROM PART NUMBERS

MODELS AFFECTED: 1985-1986 CIMARRON WITH 2.8L V-6

Some 1985 and 1986 Cimarrons equipped with the 2.8L V-6 engine and automatic transaxles may experience a surge or chuggle condition. The chuggle occurs only in the 32 to 40 mph range, in third gear, under steady throttle, and with the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) applied. A recalibrated service PROM has been released to correct this chuggle condition.

Since a number of basic engine conditions can cause similar symptoms in the 32-40 mph range, the cause of the symptoms must be corrected to assure proper operation of the vehicle under all conditions. The service PROMs released for this condition are necessary and effective only if all engine mechanical and ignition systems are functioning property. These service PROMs should only be utilized in cases where it has been determined that the condition is not caused by engine mechanical or ignition systems.

When ordering, use the following part numbers to obtain the service PROM:

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
