COASTDOWN WHINE NOISE REPLACE TRANSAXLE STRUT

MODELS AFFECTED: 1985-1986 CIMARRONS EQUIPPED WITH 2.8L V-6 AND 125C TRANSAXLE

Some 1985-1986 Cimarrons equipped with a 2.8L V-6 and 125C transaxle may exhibit a whine noise from the transaxle final drive from 50 MPH (80 KMH) to 20 MPH (25 KMH). This whine noise could be most audible during coastdown in the 30-20 MPH (45-25 KMH) range.

To repair this condition, replace the transaxle lateral strut assembly, P/N 14106640. This one piece strut assembly will dampen and isolate this normal final drive noise from the passenger compartment.

For warranty purposes, use labor operation K6740 at .3 hours.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
