ENGINE BLOCK HEATER LEAKAGE (REPLACE BLOCK HEATER)

SOME 1985-1988 CIMARRONS WITH A 2.8L V-6 ENGINE (VIN W) MAY EXPERIENCE A COOLANT LEAK IN THE AREA OF THE ENGINE BLOCK HEATER. THIS CONDITION MAY BE CAUSED BY IMPROPER BLOCK HEATER INSTALLATION.

IF THE BLOCK HEATER IS IDENTIFIED AS THE SOURCE OF THE COOLANT LEAK, REPAIR THIS CONDITION BY REPLACING THE BLOCK HEATER. REUSE OF THE ENGINE BLOCK HEATER IS NOT RECOMMENDED BECAUSE OF THE STRESSED CLAMPING AND SEALING COMPONENTS.

CORRECT INSTALLATION OF THE ENGINE BLOCK HEATER WITH THE HEATING ELEMENT IS IN THE 6 O'CLOCK POSITION (FIGURE 1) AND TORQUED TO 1.6 -2.2 N-M (14.4-19.2 IN LBS.)

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
