The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
SERVICE VME
A new short block assembly, part number 89018105, has been released to service 1995-99 Northstar LD8 and L37 applications. Some of these blocks may have been built without the camshaft intermediate drive shaft plug. Before installing one of these engines, inspect for presence of the plug. If the plug is missing, install part number 3522422. Install the plug to the correct depth using the depth of the plug in the old engine as a guide. If the plug is installed too shallow, it may interfere with and restrict oil flow to the cylinder heads, and if installed too deep, it may interfere with the crankshaft.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
