Diagnostic Instructions
Circuit/System Description
The rear parking assist indicator is located in the interior rear of the vehicle and is visible through the inside rearview mirror. The front parking assist indicator is located on the instrument panel. Each indicator contains three LEDs: two amber and
one red. The object alarm module controls these three LEDs as a visual indicator of how close the vehicle bumper is to an object. The object alarm module supplies voltage to each of the LEDs and commands each LED on by supplying an individual ground.

Circuit/System Verification
Ignition ON, command each LED ON and OFF with a scan too. The appropriate indicator should turn ON and OFF as commanded.
Circuit/System Testing
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the information center telltale assembly.
- Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the appropriate voltage control circuit terminal listed below and ground:
⇒ | If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the voltage control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the object alarm module. |
- Connect a test lamp between the voltage control circuit terminal 4 (front) or A (rear) and the appropriate LED control circuit:
Front
• | Left amber LED - terminal 3 |
• | Center amber LED - terminal 2 |
Rear
• | Left amber LED - terminal B |
• | Center amber LED - terminal C |
- Command the appropriate LED ON and OFF with a scan tool. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF when changing between the commanded states.
⇒ | If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the object alarm module. |
⇒ | If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the object alarm module. |
- If all circuits test normal, test or replace the appropriate information center telltale assembly.
