Rear Brake Rotor Replacement J55

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  3. Without disconnecting the brake hose fitting, remove the brake caliper and brake caliper bracket as an assembly and support with heavy mechanics wire or equivalent. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement.

Brake Rotor

Procedure

  1. Mark the relationship of the rotor to the wheel hub.
  2. Inspect the surface of the brake rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Surface and Wear Inspection.
  3. Replace the brake rotor if refinishing is indicated.

  4. Using the J-42450-A wheel hub resurfacing kit , remove any corrosion on rotor mating surface of the wheel hub.
  5. Using the J-41013 rotor resurfacing kit , remove any corrosion from the mating surface of the rotor to the wheel hub.
  6. Do not remove the corrosion inhibiting coating on the friction surface of the brake rotor.

  7. After the installation is complete, burnish the brake pads and rotors. Refer to Brake Pad and Rotor Burnishing.

Remove the brake caliper mounting bracket. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement.

Rotor Retention Bolt

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Tighten
12 N·m (106 lb in)

Brake Rotor

Procedure

  1. If removing the rotor to service the wheel bearing/hub, use the J 41013 , to clean the contact area of the rotor to the wheel bearing/hub.
  2. If servicing the rotor, use the J 42450-A , to clean the contact area of the wheel bearing/hub.
  3. If the brake rotor was removed and installed measure the lateral runout measurement (LRO). Refer to Brake Rotor Assembled Lateral Runout Measurement.
  4. If the LRO measurement exceeds specifications, refer to Brake Rotor Assembled Lateral Runout Correction.
  5. Burnish the pads and rotors. Refer to Brake Pad and Rotor Burnishing.
