1982 C-CAR REAR BUMPER OUTER END
A production change was made to 1982 C-car rear bumper outer ends which also affects service parts for 1980, 1981 and 1982 C-cars (refer to Figures 1 and 2). This design change may cause an inconsistent bumper end fit from the right side to the left side when replacing an old design bumper end with a new design bumper end.
To correct this condition, it may be necessary to perform the fonowing operations when installing the new design bumper end.
1. Place the bumper end into a vise securing it at the mounting brace then bend the brace as required to obtain a proper fit.
2. Assemble using appropriate size shim between the bumper face bar and the bumper end as shown in Figure 1.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 until required fit is obtained.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
