GR. 0 RTV SILICONE SEALANT USAGE
WHEN SERVICING A VEHICLE, IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO REINSTALL A PART WHICH REQUIRES THE USE OF AN RTV SILICONE SEALANT. CARE MUST BE TAKEN TO USE THE PROPER RTV SEALANT FOR THERE ARE TWO KINDS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE THROUGH GMWDD:

GR. 6E DIESEL BLACK SMOKE
WHEN INVESTIGATING COMMENTS OF EXCESSIVE BLACK SMOKE FROM DIESEL ENGINES AT 1/3 TO 1/2 THROTTLE OPENINGS, CHECK OPERATION OF EXHAUST PRESSURE REGULATOR (E.P.R.) AND VACUUM REGULATOR VALVE (V.R.V). EX- CESSIVE E.P.R. PRESSURE CAUSES HIGH E.G.R. FLOW, DILUTING INTAKE AIR WITH EXHAUST GAS AND STARVING ENGINE FOR OXYGEN RESULTING IN BLACK SMOKE. ANOTHER SOURCE OF INTAKE AIR DILUTION COULD BE A LEAK AT EITHER, OR BOTH SIDES OF THE INTAKE CROSSOVER GASKET.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
