PARKING BRAKE HANDLE RATTLE FRONT BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY
GROUP 5 - BRAKES - MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS
1. RATTLING PARKING BRAKE HANDLE - 1982 AND EARLY 1983 CIMARRONS
1982 Cimarrons built after B.C. 420000 and early production 1983 Cimarrons may experience a rattle in the parking brake handle, when in the released position. This condition is caused by the release rod vibrating against the pawl.
To correct this condition, proceed as follows:
1. Obtain a piece of foam rubber (polyurethane foam) one inch thick and one inch in diameter.
2. Compress foam rubber and insert into parking brake handle so that the foam presses against the pawl and release rod (refer to Figure below).
3. Check to make sure the release rod action is not impaired and that the lever assembly locks properly in the "ON" position.
For warranty purposes, use labor operation T6060 at .2 hour.
2. LOW DRAG FRONT DISC BRAKE SERVICE INFORMATION - 1981 C-CARS AND ALL 1982-1983 CADILLACS
After the proper installation of new front shoe and lining assemblies or caliper overhaul, the following procedure must be done on vehicles equipped with the "low drag" calipers:
"Apply approximately 175 pounds of force to the brake pedal three (3) times."
This is required to properly seat the caliper and related components. A low brake pedal may result on initial applications if this procedure is not followed.
