An HT4100 oil pan gasket has been released by Cadillac and is now available through GMWDD. The new gasket can be used when servicing all HT4100 engines. This new gasket does not supersede the use of RTV, but has been made availble as an optional method for sealing the oil pan on all HT4100 engine equipped Cadillacs. This oil pan gasket is used on all 1985 longitudinal HT4100 engines installed in the Eldorado, Seville and Brougham. It will also be used in the transverse engine installed 1985 FWD Fleetwoods and Devilles built after Engine Unit Number 383055. Part numbers for the oil pan gaskets are as follows:
ENGINE P/N ------ --- Transverse 1629458 Longitudinal 1629459
When installing the oil pan gasket, follow the procedure listed below:
1. Remove oil pan using the appropriate Service Manual procedure.
2. Clean RTV sealant and oil residue from oil pan and cylinder block.
3. Install oil pan gasket to oil pan (the gasket has an adhesive applied to one side to aid in installation).
4. Place RTV on oil pan gasket, as shown at 'A' on Figure 1, to seal the front cover and cylinder block joint to the oil pan. Also place RTV on the oil pan gasket, as shown at 'B' on Figure 1, to seal the rear main seal area.
5. Install oil pan gasket using the appropriate Service Manual procedure.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
