Two types of relays were packaged under P/N 1626239 by GM Parts. The correct relay will have the P/N 1626239 and the electrical schematic (Figure 1) moulded into the relay cover. The incorrect relay will have P/N 12033768 on a paper label with P/N 1623924 and the electrical schematic (Figure 2) moulded into the relay cover. Installing the incorrect relay in 1981-84 vehicles equipped with 6.0 liter engines (V8-6-4) as a fuel pump relay will immediately damage the ECM and set a code 20.
The relay cover must be inspected for the correct part number before installing it for use as a fuel pump relay in 1981-1934 vehicles equipped with 6.0 liter engines (V8-6-4).
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
