A PRODUCTION CHANGE WAS MADE TO 1982 C-CAR REAR BUMPER OUTER ENDS WHICH ALSO AFFECTS SERVICE PARTS FOR 1980, 1981 AND 1982 C-CARS (REFER TO FIGURES 1 AND 2). THIS DESIGN CHANGE MAY CAUSE AN INCONSISTENT BUMPER END FIT FROM THE RIGHT SIDE TO THE LEFT SIDE WHEN REPLACING AN OLD DESIGN BUMPER END WITH A NEW DESIGN BUMPER END. TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION, IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO PERFORM THE FOLLOWING OPERATIONS WHEN INSTALLING THE NEW DESIGN BUMPER END. 1.PLACE THE BUMPER END INTO A VISE SECURING IT AT THE MOUNTING BRACE THEN BEND THE BRACE AS REQUIRED TO OBTAIN A PROPER FIT. 2.ASSEMBLE USING APPROPRIATE SIZE SHIM BETWEEN THE BUMPER FACE BAR AND THE BUMPER END AS SHOWN IN FIGURE 1. 3.REPEAT STEPS 1 AND 2 UNTIL REQUIRED FIT IS OBTAINED.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
