SOME 1983 CADILLAC 'C' CARS EQUIPPED WITH THM 200-4R TRANSMISSIONS MAY EXPERIENCE A CONDITION OF AN INOPERATIVE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH. ON DFI EQUIPPED VEHICLES, A CODE 39 WOULD ALSO BE PRESENT. THIS CONDITION MAY BE CAUSED BY THE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH HARNESS LOCATING CLIP GROUNDING THE WIRING TO THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY. FOR IDENTIFICATION PURPOSES, THE TRANSMISSION'S SERIAL NUMBER TAG IS LOCATED IN THE RIGHT REAR OF THE THM 200-4R TRANSMISSION CASE (REFER TO FIGURE 1) AND USE THE FOLLOWING FORMAT: 245 1 T 83 AA 1083 JULIAN CALENDAR PLANT MODEL TRANSMISSION SERIAL DATE OF BUILD SHIFT CODE YEAR MODEL NUMBER THM 200-4R TRANSMISSIONS WITH ANY DATE OF BUILD CODES PRIOR TO 245 MAY HAVE BEEN ASSEMBLED WITH THE TCC HARNESS LOCATING CLIP INCORRECTLY POSITIONED. TO CORRECT THE INOPERATIVE TCC CONDITION, REPLACE THE APPLICABLE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID AND HARNESS ASSEMBLY (P/N 8634960 FOR AA MODEL TRANSMISSIONS AND P/N 8634961 FOR OM MODEL TRANS- MISSIONS), AND CORRECTLY POSITION THE CLIP BY ROTATING IT AS FAR REARWARD AS POSSIBLE; THEN, BEND IT TOWARD THE DEPRESSION IN THE CONTROL VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY (APPROXIMATELY 60 DEGREES CLOCKWISE FROM ITS ORIGINAL POSITION AS SHOWN IN FIGURE 2 ON THE REVERSE SIDE OF THIS BULLETIN). USE MOST APPLICABLE LABOUR OPERATION FROM CANADIAN LABOUR TIME GUIDE AND CLAIM .6 HOURS.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
