SIX-WAY SEAT ADJUSTER MOVEMENT REPLACE TORQUE TUBE SPRING

MODELS AFFECTED: 1985 FWD DEVILLES AND FLEETWOODS

1985 "C" cars equipped with Hancock seat adjusters may experience a rocking movement between the upper and lower six-way seat adjuster channels on either the driver's or passenger's side. The Hancock adjuster may be identified by its long, horizontal jackscrew (refer to Figure 1). To repair this condition, replace the existing torque tube springs.

Replace the torque tube spring for the driver's outer front and passenger's inner front with P/N 20300208. For the driver's inner front and rear, and passengers outer front and rear, use P/N 20369775.

To replace the torque springs, use the following procedure:

1. Remove seat adjuster assembly from seat frame.

2. Using a locking type pliers and a large screwdriver, as shown in Figure 1, carefully turn spring until hook end of spring can be pried from spring stop.

3. To install spring, use care and reverse removal procedure. If hook end of spring will not clear spring stop, it will be necessary to only partially engage spring in the torque tube slot. After engagement with stop, spring must be tapped into full engagement in slot on end of torque tube.

For warranty purposes, use labor Operation No. C6050 at .7 hour for passenger side or C6051 at .7 hour for driver side.
