AMBIENT SENSOR LOCATION P/N AND PROCEDURE

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1985 Oldsmobile 'C' Models With Air Conditioning (C65)

Reports are being received of missing outside ambient temperature sensors on C65 equipped cars. The outside ambient air temperature sensor for a 1985 Nintey-Eight with C65 has been moved from its original position in front of the radiator to a new position in the air inlet assembly. (See Fig. 1) The ambient sensor mounting screws are accessible from the outside and the electrical connection is on the inside under the I.P. The inlet assembly is pictured on page 1B-10 of the 1985 Ninety-Eight New Product Service Information Manual. The new sensor is part no. 16046103.

Removal Procedure:

1. Remove windshield wiper arms.

2. Remove air inlet screen over outside air inlet by removing 9, 7 mm (3/8 in.) screws. (Includes removing 3 screws from lower windshield moulding).

3. Remove outside ambient temperature sensor mounting screws.

4. Remove inside right lower insulator panel.

5. Disconnect connector to sensor (black and green wires).

6. Remove sensor.

Removal Procedure

1. Install sensor feeding wire and connector to inside of car.

2. Connect sensor to inside harness.

3. Install inside lower insulator panel.

4. Install air inlet screen over outside air inlet assembly.

5. Install windshield wiper arms. The inside connector is located above the AC/Defrost actuator. See Figure 5, Item 4 on page 1C-4 of the 1985 Ninety-Eight New Product Service Information Manual.
