Some early production 1985 Cadillac Devilles and Fleetwoods and Buick Electras may experience an inoperative Electronic Level Control (ELC) system. This condition may be the result of a blown ELC fuse. To correct this condition, the following procedure should be followed:
1. If the vehicle was built before VIN 215122 (Cadillac) or 413239 (Buick), replace the height sensor with P/N 22048625. Follow installation and adjustment procedures in Section 3D of the 1985 Service Manual.
2. Perform the ELC system performance check (see Figure 1).
3. If the fuse blows a second time, replace the compressor (P/N 22020538).
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
