Some 1988 DeVilles and Fleetwoods equipped with cellular telephone and Bose radio may experience a loss of hands-free operation of the telephone when the radio is off.
This condition may be caused by the Bose amplifiers not being powered on when the radio is off, because circuit 143 is missing from the dash harness.
To repair this condition install an 18 AWG wire (.8 metric) from pin G of connector C239 and route to terminal 5 of the Bose amplifier relay. The pink wire that is currently connected to terminal 5 of the relay should be disconnected and taped to the harness to prevent shorting and rattling.
For warranty purposes use Labor Operation N6100 at .5 hour.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
