INTERMITTENT BATTERY DRAIN OR COOLING FAN ON W/IGN. OFF

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1988 C DEVILLES AND FLEETWOODS

Some 1988 DeVilles and Fleetwoods may experience an intermittent battery drain or the cooling fans running with the ignition off. Both of these conditions may be due to the high speed fan relay remaining engaged after key off.

Cycling the ignition key from OFF to RUN several times may duplicate the condition.

To correct this condition replace the high speed cooling fan relay, P/N 25537492, which is currently available from CANSPO. This relay is mounted on a bracket attached to the left front strut tower. It can be identified by the following wire colours leading from its socket:

Red, circuit 2, to terminal 1 Brown, circuit 250, to terminal 2 White, circuit 962, to terminal 4 Orange/Black, circuit 963, to terminal 5

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
