LOOSE REAR WINDOW LACE REPAIR INFORMATION

MODELS AFFECTED: 1989 SEDAN DE VILLES AND FLEETWOOD SEDANS

Some early 1989 Sedan DeVilles and Fleetwood Sedans without vinyl roofs may experience a condition of loose rear window lace, especially along the bottom. This may be caused by insufficient contact by the lace to the urethane around the rear window opening. This condition may become apparent after exposure to high ambient temperatures.

To repair this condition, pull the lace out from the glass in the areas where it is loose and remove the hot melt or butyl residue with a flat screwdriver. Apply Loctite 454 clear cyanoacrylate gel or equivalent in the lace channel, reinstall the lace to the glass, and hold in place for 60 seconds (refer to Figure 1).

For warranty purposes use Labor Operation T6350 at .4 hour.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
