SUBJECT: "FISH" ODOR FROM HEADLINER

MODELS AFFECTED: 1990-1991 DE VILLES AND FLEETWOODS

Some 1990-1991 DeVilles and Fleetwoods may exhibit a condition of a "fish" type odor in the headliner. The odor is due to a processing problem with the fiberglass filler of the headliner. To repair this condition use the following procedure:

1. Replace headliner. Refer to Section 10-9 of the appropriate DeVille/Fleetwood Service Information Manual and Section 14.640 of Parts Catalog.

2. Once the headliner has been replaced, vacuum the interior to assure all the fiberglass particles left from the original headliner are removed.

3. Shampoo the carpet, seats, and door panel fabric areas to eliminate any lingering odor with GM Multi Purpose cleaner. This cleaner is available in various quantities as follows:

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
