Some 1988-1992 DeVilles and Fleetwoods may experience a condition of fuse 14 repeatedly blowing.
In an effort to reduce diagnosis time, the following conditions should be checked prior to performing normal diagnosis for a short to ground on circuit 240:
o Shorted opera lamp
o Short to ground in opera lamp, circuit 9, to sail panel.
Solid State Inverter (Sedan - integral to lamp):
To check for a shorted opera lamp, measure the resistance through the lamp contacts (with connector disconnected). Replace lamp if resistance is less than 50,000 ohms.
Single Inverter (Coupe - located in trunk):
To check for shorted opera lamp, measure the resistance through the lamp contacts to which the dark blue and white wires connect (with connector disconnected). Replace lamp if resistance is less than 20,000 ohms.
For warranty purposes use Labor Operation T6635 at .7 hour to replace one or both opera lamp(s).
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
