INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT BOLT LOOSE

MODELS AFFECTED: 1990 DE VILLES AND FLEETWOODS

Some 1990 DeVilles and Fleetwoods may have a steering shaft bolt that has not been tightened to specified torque. This condition causes a rattle which could be annoying but cannot cause steering shaft separation. The vehicles affected are within the following VIN range:

L4205484 - L4207519

Most of these vehicles do not have this condition. A list of the VIN's of vehicles with this condition will be sent to dealers to whom those vehicles were shipped.

To repair this condition the intermediate steering shaft upper bolt should be tightened to 47 N-m using the following procedure:

1. Remove left-hand instrument panel sound insulator panel (hush panel).

2. Pull top portion of dust cover down.

3. Torque pinch bolt to 47 N-m (35 lb. ft.).

4. Pull dust cover up and secure back into position.

5. Reinstall sound insulator panel.

IMPORTANT: Refer to 1989 DeVille/Fleetwood Service Information Manual, page 3F3-4, Figure 6.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
