Some 1990 Fleetwoods and DeVilles may encounter a white bruise spot on the front door pull handle plastic insert cover (behind the pull handle). This condition is caused by the upper door window regulator pop rivet mandrel which is too long and contacts the backside of the pull handle insert cover.
To repair this condition use the following procedure:
1. Remove the door inside handle cover and the two pull handle retaining screws. Removal of the complete door trim pad is not necessary.
2. Pull the door trim panel upper section inboard and cut the upper regulator pop rivet mandrel flush with the pop rivet dome with a die grinder.
3. Reinstall upper section of door trim panel.
4. Heat the white bruise spot with a heat gun until the white spot and distortion disappear.
For severe cases the handle escutcheon assemblies can be replaced using the following part numbers:
DeVille: LH 20579715 RH 20579714
Fleetwood: LH 20579599 RH 20579598
For warranty purposes use Labor Operation T6398 at .3 hour to perform the above procedure, or use Labor Operation C3240 (right side) or C3241 (left side) at .4 hour to replace a pull handle.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
